MANNEQUIN

A few weeks ago, an article was published, which called our attention –from Sweden- and we didn’t want to let it pass by.

The outstanding thing about it is because some mannequins were photographed –in underwear- with sizes that didn’t belong to the beauty standards of today and that we can see in any store.
Sizes more according to the reality of most women.
Figures that do not have flat bellies –as if we were ironing tables- but with bodies that better adjust to the reality.

If we take a closer look, we can see that the great fashion industry is run –mostly- by men, who establish stereotypes, thinking more about the clothes, than the women that are going to wear them. It is as if women had to adapt to the clothes they are going to wear, instead of the other way around.
Maybe these images will make us think and become aware of how our body is; and to accept it the way it is. One thing is to take care of it to have a healthy beauty, and another thing is to do drastic diets to adapt to established beauty cannons.
If we want to evolve, if we want to begin accepting ourselves the way we are, we could start doing it with our own body.
Beauty lies in diversity; but one day they made us think that we should all be the same way. We know the feminine is far away from being a replica of each other. As they say: “A woman, a world”, and in that world, measures and dimensions are different, not better or worse, just different.

  1. Hello and thank you about this theme:) We have notice those "news" from Sweden too here in Finland and are happy about them. It is time start appreciate your own female body with its lines, curves, hairs and all personal shapes. We are all different and beautiful our own ways. It is a way of liberation. Not a "controlled" one, but accepting one.

  2. I would also like to see a mannequin with hair, Virpi :) Hair in the armpits... legs... unshaved. That is also one twisted men-created illusion that women should be without bodyhair... and to look like twelve year old children. During the witch hunt in Europe they used to shave womens hair (hair, pubic hair, body hair..) before killing them to take away the "witch power". This happened at least in Sweden. -Laura
